MARIA SHARAPOVA THE REAL CHAMP
Didn't regret waking up early on a Sunday morning... I watched the best game ever... best thing is.. my fave Woman in tennis won the US Open! Her 2nd Grand Slam. I'm so happy she won! She deserves it. She defeated Justine Henin-Hardene who's been to all the Grand Slam finals this year... Well, it doesn't seem impossible for her since her great performance in the semi-final against amelie mauresmo yesterday (i woke up at 5am & the game was in the final set... but i got to watch the repeat later that evening).
The final match... M.Sharapova VS J. Henin-Hardene
It started quite badly (her 1st time in the finals!)... quite a few errors from sharapova... she was down 2-0 b4 she finally won the set by 6-4. 2nd set was even better tennis... she was focused, great serves, fabulous forehands, superb mind game. When justine was far behind she'd serve slow... when she's at the baseline... it'll be over 115mph! She intimidates, she dominates... she wins. Btw, she's always pretty on the court... explains her Nike tagline "I FEEL PRETTY".
When she won the match.... she was on her knees bending over, trying to absorb it all in. Then she was up and jumping and went to hug her dearest daddy. She came back to the court & disappeared somewhere... she came back with a gold Motorola RAZR (tagline "MARIAMOTO" for the ad), trying to get her mom on the line (mommy never goes to her game... she can't stand the pressure). Then she had her TAG HEUER on (they pay her a lot... it's her job to put it on). Then she went for her speech & picked up her check (US&1.2 million plus US&500 thousand bonus coz she's a lower seeded player in the match) & trophy (half of it topples over her head... she was too happy to feel embarassed by it).
She's 19... she's talented, she's pretty, she's got her dream job (tennis), she dates my fave Man in Tennis, Andy Roddick!... and she earns US$20M in endorsement deals per year. What more can a girl ask for.
